Mesenchymal stromal cell therapy
This map follows this approach and explains it below. It holds no study of its own about it yet, so there are no measurements, no evidence states and no readiness on this page — an explanation is not evidence, and this page will not print one as the other.
What this is
Cells taken from bone marrow, fat tissue or umbilical cord are given into the injury site, into the spinal fluid, or into a vein.
What problem it is trying to solve
In the first days and weeks the damage spreads beyond the original blow — inflammation, swelling, cell death. This approach tries to soften that second wave.
How it is supposed to work
These cells do not become nerve cells. The proposed mechanism is that they release substances that damp inflammation and support surviving cells — supporting the environment rather than replacing what was lost.
Limits and known risks
How the cells are prepared, the dose and the route differ from study to study, so results compare badly. Delivery into the injury site is surgery. Outside trials the same procedures are sold in clinics that publish no results, and that is a known risk in its own right.
What is still missing
What is missing: a shared standard for the preparation and the dose, and controlled studies with enough participants.
