SCI Regeneration MapWhat the world knows about repairing the injured spinal cord

Seven directions of research

What is being researched

Ten approaches are being tried. Each is shown on the step it has actually reached — and the steps are far apart: an idea tested in a dish is not a treatment somebody can be given.

Nothing here is ranked or recommended. A step says how far the evidence has come, never how well something works and never whether it suits one person.

Who works on a topic

Choose a topic the trial registry itself names and see which organisations a primary source connects to it — in the role that source confirms, with the field that proves it, and the registry record itself.

Everything this map declares it covers

Sixty-seven subjects, grouped the way the field groups them. Each opens a page with what a person has checked, what the sources hold and nobody has read yet, and where it was looked for.

The approach is described, and no study in this collection has moved it to a step. That is a gap in what has been read, not a verdict on the approach.

Brain–computer interface

Sensors read the electrical activity of the brain's surface, software recognises the intention to move, and that intention drives something outside the body — a cursor, a robotic arm, or a muscle stimulator.

No step recorded.

studies: 0 · measurements: 0

Chondroitinase ABC

An enzyme delivered to the injury site to break down part of the scar substance.

No step recorded.

studies: 0 · measurements: 0

Epidural electrical stimulation

A thin electrode implanted in the back, over the covering of the spinal cord, and a small generator under the skin. The device delivers a weak current to the cord below the injury — not to the tear itself and not to the brain.

No step recorded.

studies: 0 · measurements: 0

Transcutaneous spinal cord stimulation

The same idea without surgery: electrodes are stuck to the skin of the back and the current passes through the tissue to the spinal cord.

No step recorded.

The rest of the research held here

This collection also holds trials that are not about repairing the cord at all: they are about living with the injury — bladder, pain, spasticity, blood pressure, breathing, bone. None of the fourteen patterns that recognise an approach appears anywhere in them, and that is correct: they test something else. They are grouped here by what each of them measured.

0 studies tied to one of the ten approaches · 57 studies about living with the injury · 57 studies in this collection in total, each counted once

48 of those studies record no measurement at all, so they are under no outcome below. They are reachable through the collection and through the registry record each of them came from.
